The Edo State Government has again warned residents against land grabbers who sell lands belonging to the government, communities and private individuals.

The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare, gave the warning in Benin City, the State capital.

The warning follows the government’s recent action to reclaim its lands located in the Oke Aroma-Irhirhi-Obazagbon-Ogheghe axis of the city.

“We are disappointed to hear that some people, as late as September, when this operation started, still went there to buy land even with the demolition exercise that has been carried out there and the enlightenment campaigns by the government” Nehikhare said.

“People were still duped into buying land in that area. This we know because we keep inviting the victims for meetings.

“I want to repeat again that before you buy any land, especially here in Edo State, contact the Edo State Geographic Information Service (EdoGIS) and make sure the land is not encumbered in anyway, both as Government land or private land; and you must only buy land that is already registered,” he added.

The Commissioner also told journalists that the Edo State Government bagged the Award for the Best State Government in the Power Sector at the Inaugural Edition of the Nigeria Power Sector Awards, which took place on Wednesday, November 23rd 2022, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

Nehikhare also announced that the State Government has appointed Chief Joseph Ohimei Elakhe as the Village head of Uroa, Ivbiomon Clan in Owan East Local Government Area.
