The Edo State Government has condemned the destruction and looting of critical public assets by suspected hoodlums, who hijacked the #EndSARS protests, appealing to the youths to stop further destruction of infrastructure in the state.
Executive Chairman, Edo Development and Property Agency (EDPA), Isoken Omo, who led a government delegation to inspect damaged buildings and property in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), said the destruction and looting of public and private property was not a good approach to call government attention to any matter.
The Executive Chairman noted that the state government supports the protests by youths to demand for good governance, justice and equity in the country, but was against the destruction of critical public assets.
She reassured that the Governor Obaseki led-government will continue to prioritise the security of lives and property as well as the welfare and wellbeing of the people.
According to her, “The aftermath of the vandalisation is so glaring. The hoodlums gained access into the building and destroyed the doors, windows, office chairs and tables and carted away valuables, including laptops, TV sets and fridges, among others.
“It is quite unfortunate that this is happening to an asset owned by the state. Edo State is not for just one person as the property destroyed is owned by everybody, hence it is our collective asset that is being destroyed and carted away.”
