Edo State Acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, on Friday, 24, 2022 reiterated that the Communications Sector in the State is a single entity and should remain so.
Shaibu who made this assertion while declaring open a one-day retreat organized by the State’s Ministry of Communication and Orientation for the communication sector, emphasized the importance of harnessing information from the different Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) and other arms of government towards a synergized communication ecosystem.
According to him, giving out disjointed information could have a backlash especially in this era of social media journalism.
He further charged the participants to be open during the retreat so as to be able to develop a formidable Communications Sector in the State that will constantly churn out seamless information and messages to the populace.
Earlier, while welcoming the participants, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Hon. Adaze Emwanta, said that the ease with which social media churns out false and inaccurate information necessitated the retreat which he said is aimed at building synergy among agencies that are saddled with the task of communicating government’s activities.
According to the Commissioner, peddlers of false news will always abound but a synergized Communications Sector will definitely and always triumph with the correct information. He however, expressed confidence that the retreat will birth a transformed Communications Sector in the state.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategy, Policy, Project and Performance Management, Mrs. Sarah Ajose-Adeogun, charged the participants on high performance which according to her can be the resultant effects of a knowledgeable and synergized communication sector.
Doing justice to the theme, the resource person Dr. Elvis Omoregie, harped on the different communication channels and strategies in telling and building the Making Edo Great Again (MEGA) stories and brand as well as the diverse communication models amongst other outlines.
The retreat with the theme ‘Building Synergy in Edo State Government Communications’ had in attendance, stakeholders and dignitaries in the communication sector in Edo State seeking to build a centralised and holistic approach to communicating the Government’s vision expressed as policies and programmes.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to deserving stakeholders in the communication sector who had greatly contributed to the development of the sector in the State.
