Edo govt seeks private sector partnership in Health Insurance Scheme

The Edo State Government has urged the Organised Private Sector in the state to take advantage of the Edo Health Insurance Scheme (EDOHIS) to provide quality and affordable healthcare services for their employees.

Director General, Edo State Health Insurance Commission, Dr. Rock Amegor, who spoke to journalists in Benin City, said the scheme has provision for employers of labour in the organized private sector to offer effective, efficient, sustainable and quality healthcare services to their employees.

He explained that major areas of interventions for the scheme include primary care through which beneficiaries can access preventive health services, Outpatient Services, Internal Medicine, Pediatric care, Maternal and Neonatal Services, among others.

The Director General noted: “As Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration continues to attract investors who are in the state to set up their businesses, it only makes more sense that these employers in the organized private sector also take advantage of the state government’s health insurance scheme for the benefit of their employees, who can access quality and affordable healthcare.

“The scheme also provides specialist care in the areas of pediatric medicine, physiotherapy, surgery, dental care and ENT,” Amegor added.

Dr. Osawe Ogunbowa, a member of Benin Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BENCCIMA) commended the state government for driving all-inclusive policies and for providing a conducive business environment for the organised private sector to operate.

“It is encouraging that the government is supporting us to ensure our workforce gets affordable healthcare services. This will reduce the burden for us. This is more important for us, because our businesses can only thrive in an environment where there are right incentives for the labour force to carry out their roles,” Ogunbowa added.
