Edo hosts 500 delegates for National Science and Technology Conference

Edo State will play host to the 36 commissioners for science and technology in Nigeria between December 11 and 15, for the 15th Annual Council Meeting of the National Council on Science and Technology (NCST).

The NCST, which is the apex policymaking body on science and technology in the country, will at the weeklong confab review current trends influencing advancement of science and technology in the country.

In a statement, the Edo State Government said the event would host delegates across sectors with stakes in science and technology development, including “commissioners responsible for Science and Technology in the thirty-six states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.”

“The state government is finalising plans to ensure the successful hosting of the conference, which will feature about 500 delegates from across the country,” it added.

The state government said the national conference will also help states better fashion policies that reflect the realities of a technological-driven globalised world, adding “We expect that the state government’s hosting of the event will give us an opportunity to advertise our plans and also get insights from others to better prepare to generate jobs, engage youths and advance the state’s economy.”

“We anticipate that the conference, among other things, will further our efforts to leverage technical education as a tool to drive industrialisation. The state appreciates the place of science and technology in achieving sustainable growth and development in the twenty-first century. There is no doubt that our desire to grow as a state will benefit from the proceeding at the conference,” the state said.
