Edo Local Government Employees to Enrol in the State’s Health Insurance Scheme

By John Ewah
The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Edo State Chapter, has applauded the State Government’s efforts in providing easy access to healthcare services in the State through the Edo State Health Insurance Scheme (EdoHIS), pledging to complement Government’s efforts by mobilizing its members to enrol in the State’s Health Insurance Scheme.
This was the outcome of a meeting held between the Commissioner for Local Government, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo JP, the Director General of Edo Health Insurance Scheme, Dr. Rock Amegor, and members and officials of the Edo NULGE.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo, noted that the welfare of all public servants and particularly those at the local government level, is cardinal to having a viable workforce in the various local councils in the State. He noted that the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration has demonstrated an unwavering commitment towards the health needs of public servants in the State.
According to Osaigbovo “Health is wealth, and this is the reason why the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration is committed to improving and catering for the health needs of workers in the State. Embracing the Health Insurance Scheme will afford local government employees in the State easy access to healthcare at little or no cost”.
Also speaking, the Director General of EdoHIS, Dr. Rock Amegor, highlighted the government’s role in ensuring a viable public service through adequate investment in the healthcare needs of its workforce.
“Edo health insurance has a place for everyone, as it has been packaged to domesticate and sustain the current reforms in the health sector by the State Government. Every health plan chosen by a registrant has its own benefit package that lists all the health services an enrollee is entitled to” Amegor said, adding that the scheme provides an enrollee seamless access to quality healthcare.
Responding, members and officials of NULGE applauded the EdoHIS as a laudable initiative by the State Government. The President of the Edo State NULGE, Mr. Lazarus Imokhai Adorolo, commended the State Government’s efforts and pledged the union’s willingness to enlighten and mobilize its members to enroll and take advantage of the scheme.
In an effort to boost health care delivery, and through a holistic framework to overhaul and improve healthcare services in public health institutions in the State, the Edo State Government under its Healthcare Improvement Programme (EdoHIP), remodeled over twenty (20) primary healthcare centres across the 18 Local Government areas of the State.
The State also commenced the enrolment of residents into its Health Insurance Scheme.
The Edo State Health Insurance Scheme is an initiative of the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration, which is part of the health sector reforms in the State.
The Scheme is geared towards ensuring an all-encompassing health package for public servants as well as all Edo indigenes and residents. Public servants and residents are therefore enjoined to take advantage of the State’s Health Insurance Scheme for easy and affordable access to quality healthcare.
