Edo NEWMAP conducts free medical outreach for over 200 residents

As part of activities to mark the year-end, Nigeria Erosion Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) in Edo State embarked on a one-day free medical screening exercise for its staff and members of the public in Benin City.

The exercise was held at the Palm House along Sapele Road in the state capital and had medical practitioners from Irowa Specialist Hospital conducting tests and medical checks for staffers and members of the public at the Secretariat.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, who is also the Technical Committee Chairman of Edo NEWMAP, Mr. Lucky Wasa, said over two hundred persons were successfully screened.

He commended the management of Edo State NEWMAP for the laudable initiative, which will ensure early detection of ailments, which can make a huge difference in dealing with medical challenges.

Wasa expressed his hope that the management of Edo NEWMAP will make the exercise a yearly routine so that staff of other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and members of the public can benefit from the free medical services.

The NEWMAP had earlier held its end-of-the-year get-together, which included a fitness exercise and thanksgiving service on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The state project coordinator of Edo NEWMAP, Dr. Tom Obaseki, said the thanksgiving was to appreciate God Almighty for his blessings and mercies throughout the year.
