Edo on Path of Sustained Economic Growth through Remarkable Security Enhancement – Ojehomon

The enhanced security situation in the State has resulted in a high sense of investor confidence in the State.

The Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to combating crime in the State as it is necessary in achieving the vision of the administration in making Edo the most investment-friendly and peaceful State.

This reiteration was made by the Commissioner for Public Security and Safety, Hon. Omololu Ojehomon, during the study tour to Edo State by the National Defense College Course 31 participants, on December 6, 2022.

The commissioner in her remarks said security is critical for the stability, peace and long-term sustainability of economic growth and development.

In her words, “Putting Edo State in perspective in building socioeconomic resilience in a contemporary security environment, the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration realized that all efforts towards promoting economic recovery would be futile if the citizens who are to drive the economic recovery are insecure.

“Concerned efforts and well-articulated security policies were put in place to address the hydra-headed problem; the strategy adopted was a multi-pronged and collaborative approach where all the existing and new security agencies are working together to achieve a shared vision.”

She added that “as a result of the implementation of the Ministry’s functions, security in Edo State has improved beyond expectations, the success story has been achieved by setting up security structures within the grassroots and scaling up to the State level. The collaborative efforts have been critical to the success stories.”

According to the Commissioner, the 10,000 vigilantes within the State security network engaged with local community and policing in the last two years have done a lot to maintain a high level of sanity and security across communities in the State by taking ownership of safety within their communities, especially through intelligence gathering.

Hon. Ojehomon also spoke on the improved and upgraded mobile technology provided by the State government which she said has beefed up security and ensured prompt response to distress calls.

The Commissioner went further to explain that thus far, the enhanced security situation in the State has resulted in a high sense of investor confidence in the State.

“The prevailing sense of security is attracting foreign investments, increased public-private partnership structures and direct capital injection through investments.

She also added that “there is improved revenue generation due to direct government spending on its assets, infrastructure and facilities, promoting domestic spending on locally manufactured goods and services.”
