Edo Police CP hails Obaseki for collaboration in tackling kidnapping, robbery on Auchi/Abuja Road

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has been commended for collaborating with security agencies in the state, deploying technology and building a formidable system to address insecurity in Edo State, especially along the Benin/Auchi/Abuja Road.

The Edo State Police Commissioner, Abutu Yaro, gave the commendation when he received the management and board of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC), led by its chairman, Pastor Kennedy Osifo, who were on a courtesy visit to the Edo State Police Command.

While receiving the board members, in company of his senior officers including DCP Miller Dantawaye, DCP in charge of Operations and others, CP Yaro described Governor Obaseki as a silent achiever, whose administration has demonstrated an uncommon leadership culminating in the all-round development of the state.

The CP said the police in collaboration with the government and other security agencies have shown commitment to sustaining peace and safety across all communities in the state, building formidable mechanisms to tackle insecurity in Edo.

“This, in the last three months, has reduced the incessant cases of kidnapping and armed robbery incidents along the ever busy Benin/Auchi/Abuja road.”

Hailing EDSOGPADEC for its various projects in Edo communities aimed at improving the living standard of the people, CP Yaro assured of judicious use of the police facilities built by the state government through the interventionist agency to ensure the actualization of the desired result.

The CP further made a case for accommodation with stable electricity for “the police officers that would be deployed to these facilities for the purpose of efficient and effective service delivery to the people in terms of security.”

Earlier in his remarks, Osifo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace and security in the state, urging for improved collaboration among the police and other security agencies.

Reassuring of the government’s sustained support to the security agencies, the EDSOGPADEC chair noted that Governor Obaseki directed the agency to build marine police residential quarters with CCTV cameras in Ologbo and Gelegele.

He listed the ongoing construction of the burnt and destroyed police stations at Saint Saviour, Ugbekun and Idogbo all in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Areas during the ill-fated EndSARS protests in 2020, as part of projects being carried out by EDSOGPADEC.

Noting that the projects are all near completion, Osifo said the government also purchased eight armored guns and speed boats to secure the waterways, including Marine Police Bases with a concrete Jetty at Ologbo in Ikpoba Okha and Gelegele in Ovia North East.

Osifo said the governor has given a marching order to EDSOGPADEC for the construction of decent housing accommodations with 24-hour solar light with security gadgets for police officers to carry out their duties excellently towards securing Edo communities.
