Edo Polytechnic secures full accreditation for Mass Communication, 5 other programmes

The Edo State Polytechnic has secured full accreditation for its Mass Communication programme and five other courses after the last accreditation exercise by officials of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Abiodun Falodun, said the recent accreditation was a testament to the reforms initiated with support from the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) at the institution.

According to him, “We have just gotten full accreditation for the Mass Communication Department and five other programmes. We are waiting for the outcome of five more and expect that they will come back positive.

“The Mass Communication programme at the polytechnic is at the cutting-edge of practical teaching and learning. We have state-of-the-art radio and television studios, computer laboratories and Public Relations and Advertising teaching rooms. So, it is a total package.”

He added that students who enroll for the programme would have the opportunity of being trained by highly-qualified tutors, including seasoned academics at the department and experts who are drawn from the industry.

“We have highly-qualified teachers at the Mass Communication department who will ensure that the students get the best of education and would turn out to be functional and market-ready for employers of labour,” he added.

The Rector expressed appreciation to Governor Obaseki for his support during the accreditation exercise and contributing to ensure that the process was successful and hassle-free.

On the other programmes that were accredited in the recent exercise, he said they include Surveying and Geoinformatics, Public Administration (HND), Urban and Regional Planning, Accounting, as well as Banking and Finance.

Prof. Falodun said the graduates from the programme have been deemed by relevant regulatory agencies to have undergone proper training and are fit to take up corresponding roles in the workplace to contribute to the development of the society.
