Edo residents commend Command, Control Centre on rapid response to Benin fire emergency

Residents of Edo State have commended the state government’s Command and Control Centre for responding rapidly to distress call over a fire incident on a two-storey building in Benin City, the state capital.

A resident in the state, Osagie Moses praised the centre for its quick response to a distress call over a fire incident in Ekehuan Road on Sunday morning.

According to him, “It is a good development to know that after contacting the Command-and-Control Centre over a fire incident at a two-storey building on Ehigiator Street, off Agho Street, along Ekehuan Road, it took the fire service less than ten minutes to get to the scene on a Sunday morning.”

Another resident, Efe John, said the timely intervention of the Center and the fire service saved the entire building from being engulfed by the fire, adding, “With such response to emergencies, people should be encouraged to contact the centre.”

Earlier, the Director, Edo State Fire Service, Engr. Omoluru Osayande urged residents to take advantage of the take advantage of the Centre by calling the Edo Helplines on 08000911911 and 08001235111, for prompt response during emergencies.

According to him, the Edo Command and Control Centre is equipped to respond and coordinate with the relevant agencies of government in responding to emergencies.

Engr. Omoluru Osayande said residents should be proactive in preventing fire outbreaks, noting, “One recurring cause of fire outbreak is carelessness. There are things one shouldn’t do to prevent fire outbreaks. For example, people need to know that before refueling generator sets, you must switch off the generator.”
