  5. Edo Residents Count Gains of Obaseki’s Sustained Investment in Health Sector

The current Government in Edo State is reputed for its high premium on the health of its residents.

The Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has continued to improve the health sector through the rehabilitation and refurbishment of health facilities across the State, ranging from the Primary Healthcare Centers (PHC) to the specialist hospitals.

One of such hospitals currently witnessing facility upgrade is the Stella Obasanjo Women and Children Hospital which has now been renamed Stella Obasanjo Hospital.

The Governor has begun the expansion of the hospital and the construction of the Mother and Child medical facility, among other projects, to strengthen the State’s healthcare system.

Governor Obaseki has reassured that his administration will sustain investments in the Health Sector by ensuring that every Edo resident has access to quality and affordable healthcare.

After inspecting the ongoing expansion work at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin City, recently, the Governor also spoke on the designs for specialist hospitals across the three Senatorial Districts, a project he hopes to complete before the end of year 2022.

The Governor has consistently maintained that his administration is committed to ending residents’ medical tourism outside the State by improving and repositioning the health sector to meet global standards.

According to Obaseki, an expanded and equipped Stella Obasanjo Hospital will improve maternal and child care indices as well as help to achieve universal and comprehensive health care coverage in the State.

Recently, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Obehi  Akoria, also reiterated the Governor’s vision by adding that an out-patient Department and Administrative Department would be included in the facility.

She added that services like Oncology, Cardiology, Nephrology, and Physiotherapy rehabilitation therapy will run 24 hours in the facility.

It is delightful to note that the Edo State Government has received a N2.5billion grant from the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative for tertiary Health System Support Scheme which will be used to equip the Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin City.

With these developments, residents of the State are confident that the Edo State Government under the watch of Governor Obaseki, is on the path to providing an efficient healthcare delivery system to all residents in need of quality and affordable health care.
