Edo State commences Quarter 3 Data Review Meeting and 2026 Workplan Development Retreat for IMPACT PROJECT

‎ Edo State Government, through the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) has held a Data Review Meeting and Workplan Development Retreat for the Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) PROJECT supported by the World Bank at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) in Benin City.

‎The quarterly State Data Review Meeting served as an opportunity for stakeholders, such as the Medical Officers of Health and Monitoring and Evaluation Officers from the eighteen Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Edo State to present the data on the IMPACT PROJECT gathered from their activities at their respective LGAs . The data was then reviewed by the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), partners and next steps were discussed to identify corrections and improvements in the data, moving forward.

‎The Project’s development objectives and indicators helped monitor the project’s progress and were used to assess and score the facilities. This evaluation also impacted the performance bonuses awarded to the Facilities.

‎During the meeting, the Executive Secretary EDSPHCDA, Dr. Coulson Oahimire Osoikhia, commended the IMPACT team for their dedication to ensuring the success of the project in Edo State. He urged the stakeholders to take the data review process seriously. “I want us to take this exercise seriously. Let’s see what we are doing and harmonize the data for effective planning and health delivery. I would also like to inform you that the PHC Leadership Challenge Test is coming up on Monday. A team of assessors will visit your PHCs, and I expect you to attend to them. We need to win this challenge”. He said.

‎Dr. Idemudia Osayomore, the IMPACT Project Manager for Edo State, also spoke at the meeting, explaining that the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency had invited all states to Abuja for the 2026 Workplan Development Retreat.

‎”States were required to conduct their own 2026 Workplan Development Retreats and Edo State had taken the lead in complying with this mandate. Partners and Local Government Areas were invited to participate in the planning process. While the World Bank’s focus for 2026 was on service delivery, the 2025 focus had been on upgrading infrastructure. In total, over sixty one (61) facilities were upgraded across the State, twenty one (21) in Edo South, twenty (20) in Edo Central, and twenty (20) in Edo North, most of which are nearing completion as we speak.

‎”Now, the World Bank is asking the State to concentrate on improving service delivery, including increasing Facility utilization and improving health outcomes for the people of Edo State”. He said.

‎The meeting also involved a review of the 2025 Work plan, as well as the presentations from the LGAs. Gaps were identified, and challenges and lessons learned from the 2025 Workplan were discussed. These insights helped shape the development of the 2026 Workplan.

‎At the closing session, Mrs. Esther Ajayi David, the IMPACT Monitoring and Evaluation Officer informed the Facilities that the PHC Challenge Test would begin on Monday the 20th of October 2025. This assessment will not only evaluate the state of the Facilities in terms of service delivery but also assess the Government’s commitment to Primary Healthcare.

‎Facilities were urged to provide the assessors with the relevant information and to conduct themselves in a way that will make Edo State proud.
