By Edeniyere Abraham Osose

In continuation of the sensitization and black spots clean-up exercise, the Edo State Government, through the Edo State Waste Management Board, has called on all residents to keep their surroundings clean and comply with government-accredited waste managers in their zones.

This was contained in a statement made by the General Manager, Edo State Waste Management Board, Mr Charles Osedebamen Imariagbe, when he led his team on Saturday sanitation and sensitization exercise in Etete axis and environs.

Speaking to journalists, Imariagbe said, “today is Saturday and we are on environmental sanitation exercise in Etete axis and environ. We are trying to make sure everywhere is kept clean in this area. We are doing spot checks to make sure that the people are registered with the waste managers and that they are taking their refuse regularly, to make sure they are disposing of their refuse properly, to sensitize the people and at the same time warn them against any indiscriminate or improper disposal of refuse”.

According to him, this campaign is the one that has come to stay. We are going to be intensifying our effort in this direction and anybody that is found guilty in this exercise will be prosecuted, we will make sure that nobody is left un-sensitized”.

Imariagbe however warned that as far as the City is concerned, everyone must continue to comply with the waste management best practices going forward, adding that anyone found wanting will be apprehended and be prosecuted according to the law.

More so, the General Manager enjoined the zonal waste managers to do their part and asked them to step up their games in attending to the needs of the people as it relates to regular evacuation of refuse.

He said that going forward, any waste manager that refuses to comply with rules and regulations will be shown the way out. He, therefore, urged the residents to call the following customer care lines to lay any complaint as it relates to waste management and report any waste manager not rendering the expected services to the people, assuring them of his speedy response to them any time they call on 08109670790 or 08109670791.

The General Manager had in his team: Head of Commercial Department, Mr Martins Akhigbe, Head of Compliance Department Efosa, Imade A.B, Head of Operation Department, Mr Victor Enita, and senior health officers from the L.G.A. and the Board amongst others.

The residents were sighted complying as they came out to clean up their surroundings during the sanitation exercise, while evacuation trucks and men from the Board were evacuating refuse and cleaning every black spot all around the area.
