Edo State Government Demonstrates Unwavering Commitment to Employee Welfare

By Eghosa Emily

The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to prioritizing the welfare of its employees, including those in service and, by extension, the families of deceased employees.

This commitment was reiterated through the issuance of cheques to ten families of deceased employees covered by the Edo State Group Life Insurance Scheme within the State’s Civil Service. The cheque presentation ceremony, which took place at the conference room of the Office of the Head of Service, Edo State, had representatives of the families of the deceased members of staff present.

Representing the Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Mrs. Priscillia Aziegbemhin, conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased colleagues. She urged the recipients to utilize the funds judiciously as a gesture of appreciation for the efforts made by their benefactors.

Dr. Okungbowa emphasized the government’s unyielding dedication to prioritizing the welfare of its employees, evident in the timely payment of salaries and associated benefits. This commitment extends to the beneficiaries of deceased employees.

The Head of Service reassured the recipients that the government acknowledges and values the contributions made by their benefactors during their lifetimes.

Dr. Okungbowa further clarified that the cheque presentation adheres to the provisions of the Pension Reform Law Act of 2014 and the Edo State Contributory Pension Scheme Law of 2010 (as amended). Both laws mandate the establishment of a Group Life Insurance policy for all employees.

The beneficiaries, consisting of the families of late Mr. Ikpea Joseph Asamali, late Mr. Ajeba Richard, late Mr. Akor Paul Ifeanyi, late Mr. Amafonye Eric, the late Ayiko Ikhialose, the late Ehiakhame Ibalukhor, late Omosigho Uhunmwenkpenma, late Amanyanvbo Edowaye, late Peter Oleghe, and late Monday Omoregie, received a total amount of N36,745,810.92 (Thirty-six Million, Seven Hundred and Forty-five Thousand, Eight Hundred and Ten Naira, Ninety-two Kobo).

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Innocent Ajeba thanked the Edo State Government and all stakeholders for fulfilling their obligations in ensuring that the benefits were bestowed upon them.
