Edo State Government has reiterated its dedication towards enhancing the skills and expertise of its civil and public servants.

The Director General of the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA), Ms. Precious Imuwahen Ajoonu, affirmed this commitment during a three-day Change Management training organized by the Academy in Benin City. Ms Ajoonu who emphasized the significance of Change Management training in sustaining the State’s transformation agenda, also highlighted that it provides the necessary theoretical foundation for civil/public servants to actively participate in the process of change.

The DG further explained that Change Management involves applying structured processes and tools to achieve specific goals, while also emphasizing the importance of following a systematic approach to ensure meaningful and lasting change.

Ms Ajoonu applauded the positive impact of these training sessions, noting significant improvements in participants’ conduct. She commended Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration for prioritizing continuous training and retraining of civil/public servants in the State.

She also disclosed the Academy’s plans for the future, indicating that trained civil/public servants would be responsible for training others, adding that JOOPSA would expand its faculty in 2024.

On her part, the consultant and trainer, Mrs. Folake Ferreira, emphasized the need for a mindset change among civil and public servants. She stressed that Change Management training was essential because it is crucial to change a person’s mindset towards implementing effective change. Ferreira acknowledged the Edo State Government’s efforts in providing this opportunity for civil/public servants to enhance their skills, highlighting the importance of recognizing civil/public servants’ significance by training them in Change Management.

Participants, such as Anes Osagie from the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Area Development Commission, expressed their gratitude for the training opportunity. Osagie praised Edo State Governor and JOOPSA’s management for motivating civil/public servants to become proactive change drivers within their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
