The Edo State Government has demonstrated its commitment to combating violence and supporting its victims with the presentation of a N5m cheque to a survivor of domestic violence, Uyi Tina.
The Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani did the presentation to the recipient at Government House in Benin City. The brief event was witnessed by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Barr. Marie Bisi Idaomi, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Joy Irenose Ihensekhien.
Mrs. Anani while encouraging Uyi, referred to the Biblical story of Job, who lost everything and eventually recovered all. She added, “When there is life, there is hope. We are grateful that life was not taken from you. I know that the law will take its course.
“You are a daughter of our State, and what affects you affects us. I want to tell you that we are here for you. We may not have everything to give you, but the support we have, we will give to you. The Governor sends his best regards. He said we should tell you that he wishes you a speedy recovery. He said we should tell you not to give up”.
Upon receipt of the State Government’s gesture, Uyi appreciated the First Lady and the Government of Edo State, saying, “Thank you so much ma, God bless you ma, God bless Governor Okpebholo”.
Recall that Lady Uyi Tina, upon returning from Europe on December 31st, 2024, was set ablaze while inside her apartment by her estranged husband, Osaro Awughan. The incident caused her to lose what she had gathered over the years, which affected her health conditions that led to her being hospitalized.
