Edo State Govt Inaugurates Team to Strengthen Project Monitoring

In a bid to enhance transparency, accountability, and effective project delivery as well as the management of State resources, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has inaugurated a Project Monitoring Team.

The inauguration ceremony held Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the Government House in Benin City. Governor Obaseki, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr Osarodion Ogie, described the event as a significant milestone in the State’s efforts to ensure that projects are executed in line with the Government’s vision and objectives.

According to Governor Obaseki, “The Team comprises of technical experts from line-ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), including the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning. The Project Monitoring Team is tasked with the responsibility of tracking project progress, identifying potential bottlenecks, and providing timely interventions to ensure that projects are completed on schedule and within budget”.

The Monitoring Team has as its Chairman, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Osilama Okuofu. In his acceptance speech and on behalf of the Team, Hon. Okuofu assured the Governor that the Team will apply itself assiduously to delivering on the mandate as stated in its Terms of Reference. He added that the Team will carry out its responsibilities without hindering the seamless flow of the projects’ processes and execution, assuring that quality and timeliness will not be compromised.

Other members of the Team included representatives from the Ministry of Budget, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Roads and Bridges and Ministry of Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development. The multidisciplinary Team is designed to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to monitoring, evaluation and management of projects being executed by allocated State resources.
