In demonstration of its unwavering commitment to the welfare of its workforce, the Edo State Government has disbursed the sum of N16,548.757.20 (sixteen million, five hundred and forty-eight thousand, seven hundred and fifty-seven Naira, twenty Kobo) to families of five deceased employees under the State group life insurance policy.
In his remarks during the official presentation of cheques at the State Government House, on 16th January 2025, the Edo State Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa Esq., conveyed that the State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebolo’s deliberate effort is to enhance the welfare of workers in the State.
Dr. Okungbowa highlighted that the financial support given to families of deceased employees aligns with the provisions of the Pension Reform Act of 2014 and the Edo State Contributory Pensions Scheme Law of 2010 (as amended), which mandated the establishment of a group life insurance policy, ensuring that the beneficiaries of a deceased employee receive a payment equivalent to three times the employee’s last annual salary.
According to him, “Today marks another milestone in the life of this administration as it is another show of commitment and love for its esteemed employees serving and by extension the deceased employees’ families.
“The total amount being presented today is N16,548.757.20 (sixteen million, five hundred and forty-eight thousand, seven hundred and fifty-seven Naira, twenty Kobo) only. We wish to express our condolences to the families of our esteemed departed colleagues.
“I want you to know that the government appreciates and values you highly and the efforts your benefactors put into their work when they were alive. I admonished the recipients to put the funds to judicious use,” he concluded.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Osahon Ayevbosa thanked the Edo State Government for the recognition and the efforts towards ensuring that the families of the deceased left behind benefit from the scheme.
The deceased employees whose families received cheques under the scheme are Late Mr. Amedu Mamudu Jasper who was a staff of High Court of Justice; Late Mr. Ohonbo Stephen Ikponmwosa, who was a staff of PPEB; Late Mr. Musa Yahaya Suleiman of Edo State House of Assembly; Late Mr. Ijeh Justina Winifred of the office of the Accountant- General, and Late Obayuwana Roseline Osasogie of SUBEB.
Also in attendance were the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Office of the Head of Service, Barr. Mrs. Priscilla Aziegbemhin; Chairman/Permanent Secretary, Edo State Pension Bureau, Abbe Osaro Washington, amongst others.
