As part of its efforts towards creating a more supportive and inclusive society for all, the Edo State Government through its Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, has partnered with the Edo State Chapter of the Elderly Persons Association of Nigeria (EPAN) to improve the overall well-being and sustain the dignity of the elderly in the State.

In an engagement with EPAN, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief Bisi Idaomi Esq., emphasized the importance of addressing specific needs of seniors to enhance their quality of life. She recommended the need to begin with manageable achievable projects and gradually build towards larger initiatives.

Chief Idaomi, while restating that the State Government prioritizes the welfare of senior citizens in the State, expressed commitment to working with the Association to support and improve its welfare, particularly in healthcare coverage. She disclosed plans to establish a home for the elderly in the State as part of the initiative of providing a safe and supportive environment for them.

The Vice President of the Edo State Chapter of EPAN, Pastor Felix Enehizena, while highlighting objectives of the Association, shared some experiences and challenges in advocating for the rights and welfare of the elderly. He commended the State Government for its initiatives in bettering the lives of citizens, and expressed optimism that the collaboration would positively impact the elderly in the State, with commitments to addressing their unique needs, enhancing their welfare, dignity, and overall quality of life.

Present at the engagement included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Joy Ihensekhien; the Director of Women Affairs, Mrs. Florence Nwaozor; the Director of Planning, Mr. John MacDonald; the Director of Social welfare, Mrs. Osato Odobo; the Director of Child Department, Mrs. Kate Bello; amongst others.
