The Edo State Government through its Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has rescued a mentally ill nursing mother, Miss Nkechi, and her baby boy in Benin City.
According to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. (Barr.) Marie Olabisi Idaomi, “The incident occurred on February 25, 2025, when Miss Nkechi gave birth and was rescued by a patriotic Nigerian, who facilitated her admission to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
The Ministry’s intervention has ensured the safe transfer of Miss Nkechi and her baby to the Ministry’s care.
“Upon medical assessment, Miss Nkechi’s mental health status was confirmed, and she was handed over to the Director of Rehabilitation Services, Mr. Sylvester Okeguale”.
Mr. Okeguale confirmed that Miss Nkechi will receive adequate treatment and rehabilitation at one of the Ministry’s partnering herbal healing homes in the State.
