The Edo State Government through its Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has rescued a 9-month-old baby and reunited same to its biological family in Benin City.
The said baby was alleged to have been stolen during a church service on Sunday, 1st June, 2025, around the Siluko Road axis of Benin.
The suspect, a young lady whose name is yet to be disclosed, was alleged to have taken the said baby to an orphanage, claiming to have found the child abandoned. However, her story raised suspicions, which prompted staff of the orphanage to contact the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and upon interrogation by the Police, the Suspect confessed to stealing the said baby during a church service.
The Ministry’s intervention and collaboration with the Police ensured the safe return of the baby to its relieved family.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the suspect’s actions, and she is currently in Police custody. The Ministry’s efforts have brought respite to the family and highlighted the importance of community vigilance and collaboration with law enforcement agencies in safeguarding the well-being of residents in the State.
