The Edo State House of Assembly has confirmed Hon. Ebanehita Sonia Omonzane as the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), following an overwhelming majority voice vote by members during plenary as presided by the Speaker, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, on Monday, 23rd June, 2025 in Benin City.
Speaking shortly after her confirmation, Hon. Omonzane expressed gratitude to God and appreciated the State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo for the opportunity given her to serve in such a critical role. In her words, “I am deeply honoured by the trust and confidence reposed in me by His Excellency, the Governor, and the Edo State House of Assembly.”
Prior her confirmation, Hon. Omonzane has been the functioning Executive Chairman of Edo SUBEB. She has served the State and some private organisations of high repute in several managerial capacities, including being the immediate past Chairman of the Edo State Senior Secondary Education Board.
Hon. Omonzane reaffirmed her commitment to advancing the Governor’s vision of ensuring that every child in Edo State has access to quality and inclusive basic education. She emphasized her focus on strengthening teacher capacity, improving learning environments, and promoting accountability in the delivery of education services across the State.
