In its resolve to ensure the well-being and safety of Edo State residents, the Ministry of Health has continued its mission against quackery and substandard healthcare facilities operating in the State especially around Oredo and Egor local government areas of the State as part of its routine checks for the month of September, 2023.
The ongoing campaign is aimed at combating quackery and to unravel ‘below standards’ quality of healthcare facilities across the three senatorial districts of the State. During the operation, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Samuel Alli, represented by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Edward Aisowierin, emphasised the campaign’s objectives to be thorough and of high integrity with zero-tolerance for against corrupt medical practices in the across the State.
Dr. Alli said the objectives of the campaign is in line with the State Government’s unwavering commitment to advancing the health and well-being of its residents. He decried the idea of some who view medical practice solely as a profit-driven venture, stating that practitioners sometimes neglect to seek guidance from the Ministry of Health regarding registration procedures, thereby failing to adhere to established standards.
The Commissioner noted that some of the inspected facilities lacked qualified professionals to oversee its operations, resulting in inadequate personnel and environments unfit for healthcare services. In accordance with the Ministry of Health’s leadership mandate, aimed at eradicating unregistered facilities, he stated that all facilities failing to meet the prescribed standards for registration in order to be certified fit for operations, would face closure.
Dr. Alli while stressing the importance for practitioners in medical outreaches to obtain necessary approvals from the State Ministry of Health, appealed to prospective stakeholders in such venture to adhere to the approved requirements before commencing their operations.
In the course of the campaign, the Inspection Team visited several healthcare facilities, including Jubilee Specialist Clinic & Maternity; Novelty Diagnostics which was sealed as at press time; El-Roi Diagnostic & Research Laboratory Limited; BON Optical; Ultimate Care Diagnostics; Medical Imaging. Others also visited and sealed as at press time are Medical Laboratory & Clinical Support Centre and Excel Medical Centre.
