Edo State Proposes Policy to Enhance Technical Talent Development

By Edebor .I. Esther

In a move to bolster the development of technical talents within the State, the Edo State Government has launched the Technical Talent Development Programme (TTDP) workshop. The initiative aims to create a comprehensive policy and action plan for the implementation of technical talent development with the ultimate goal of positioning the State as the Technical Hub in the Country and Africa by the year 2027.

The three-day Workshop which was held at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA), Benin City, drew resource persons from critical Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), including Education, Board for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (BTVET), Quality Assurance, EdoJobs, Communication and Orientation, amongst others.

The Ag. Executive Secretary of Edo State BTVET and Team Lead for TTDP, Dr. Terseer Nyulaku, stated that the State Government is committed to transforming the State into a thriving technical hub. The transformation, as outlined by Dr. Nyulaku, is hinged on robust collaborations among various MDAs, especially those deeply involved in the technical talent sector.

According to Dr. Nyulaku, “The overarching objective of the endeavour is to equip resident youths in the State with the skills required to meet the demands for technical talents for local and international markets, justifying the necessity for the policy development and its potential to shape the direction of talent development in the State.
“This policy aims to bring all institutions together, focusing on their specific components to foster the development of technical talents in Edo State. The emphasis is on aligning our talent development efforts with international standards that are accessible, of high quality, relevant, cost-effective, and equitable.”

As Edo State takes this vital step to enhance its technical talent development, the prospects of realizing its vision as a burgeoning technical hub by 2027 seem increasingly attainable. The commitment to aligning with international standards and fostering a robust ecosystem for technical talents development promises to provide resident youths with valuable opportunities, and makes the State an attractive destination for technical innovation and growth.
