Edo strengthening institutions to foster sustainable growth, devt, says Shaibu

The Edo State Acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Comr. Philip Shaibu, has said the state is deemphasizing strong individuals and strengthening institutions to foster sustainable growth and development in the state.

Shaibu said this when he received the executive members of the Edo State chapter of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), who were on a courtesy visit, at the Government House, Benin City.

The acting governor said the state places a premium on training and capacity building for its workforce and will partner with the CIPM in this regard.

He said, “We are de-emphasising individuals and now emphasising and institutionalizing growth in our system. This will not allow any man or woman to become bigger than any institution.

“I thank you for your role in the development of the state and country. We are in a state where the human resources that we are blessed with are underutilized. Nigeria is blessed with natural resources and also blessed with human resources. While other countries don’t have natural resources, they leverage on their human resources, which is the greatest of all resources, but the quality of these resources have been a challenge.”

“Your organisation has a major role to play as far as skill development, training and retraining, capacity building for our personnel is concerned. When we have a knowledgeable and dedicated workforce that is skilled to carry out its function, the issue of our dwindling economy will be a thing of the past,” he noted.

On his part, Chairman, Edo CIPM, Osahon Omole, hailed the government for its people-centric projects across the state, urging increased collaboration between the state and the organization.
