The Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Barr. (Mrs.) Onomen Briggs has led a delegation to review reconstruction projects of several schools in Edo South Senatorial District as part of oversight functions of monitoring progress of initiatives aimed at upgrading school infrastructure in the State.
Barr. Briggs’ Team included the Edo South Board member, Mrs. Angela Okpamen, Dr. Osahon Aibangbee, Engr. Martins, amongst others. The delegation toured Ebo Primary School, Ore-Oghene Primary School, Evbareke Junior Secondary School, Useh Junior Secondary School, and Okhokhugbo Primary School.
At Ore-Oghene Primary School, the Headmistress, Helen Ogbemudia Ese expressed concerns about the deteriorating condition of the school buildings and the adverse effect on pupils’ well-being; to which the Chairman assured that the reconstruction works would be completed as quickly as possible.
Mrs. Briggs expressed satisfaction on the projects’ progress so far and assured that the projects would be completed in couple of weeks in order to significantly improve on the learning environment. She emphasised the importance of community security to curb the incidences of vandalism, saying parents, teachers, students, and local residents must take ownership of the facilities to ensure that they are well-protected and properly maintained.
The SUBEB Boss revealed that over a hundred schools across the three senatorial districts are undergoing renovations and reconstruction, where necessary. She added that as part of the comprehensive initiative, the schools will receive essential furnishings and amenities, which are designed to create a safe and conducive learning environment.
Barr. Briggs reaffirmed the Edo State Government’s commitment to revitalizing education through strategic infrastructure development. She urged stakeholders to support the efforts, stressing that a collective approach is key to transforming public education and securing a brighter future for children resident in the State.
