The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has completed a two-week statewide physical verification exercise for EdoSTAR Teaching Fellows to confirm the number of active and punctual teachers, verify their credentials, as requirements to engage them in ensuring that public basic schools are adequately staffed.

The exercise which was conducted at the directives of the SUBEB Chairman, Barr. Mrs. Onomen Briggs, covered teachers in primary and junior secondary schools, with initial identification by the Local Government Education Authority Secretary and the Human Resource Personnel Management Team.

According to Barr. Briggs, “The process was managed by dedicated team leads including John Thomas Oribhabor in Edo South; Aliu Boniface in Edo North; and Godwill Osayamen Iyalekhue in Edo Central. Their coordinated efforts resulted in 100% compliance among the EdoSTAR Teaching Fellows, and the collected data will guide future teacher recruitment and deployment decisions”.

Launched in 2022, the EdoSTAR Teaching Fellowship offers a structured pathway for aspiring educators especially graduates without formal teaching qualifications, to become professional teachers. The initiative is key to strengthening the State’s educational framework and addressing the shortfall of teaching personnel in public schools.
