The Edo State Government will on Tuesday, October 5, unveil the first batch of Edo Supporting Teachers To Achieve Results (EdoSTAR) Teaching Fellows, to strengthen the teaching corps in the state.

Executive Chairman, Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (Edo SUBEB), Dr. Joan Osa Ovia, who disclosed in a statement, said the fellows will be unveiled by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

She noted that the ceremony will hold on Tuesday, October 5th at 11 am at the Samuel Ogbemudia Secondary School Hall (formerly New Era college), adding that the event will coincide with the annual celebration of World Teachers Day and resonates with the 2021 theme, ‘Teachers at the heart of education recovery’.

According to her, “The EdoSTAR program is a unique three-year Professional Fellowship designed for teachers (and aspiring teachers) within the state to strengthen the quality of teaching staff and fill existing teacher gaps in our state-owned schools particularly in schools located in rural, riverine, and remote communities. Based on performance, successful fellows will be absorbed into the public service of Edo state.

“The EdoSTAR fellowship program will expose aspiring teachers to professional teaching skills, academic learning opportunities that will enable them to effectively deliver quality education fit for the 21st century and beyond.”
