The Chief Executive Officer of the Edo State Flood, Erosion, and Watershed Management Agency (EdoFEWMA), Hon. Ahmed Momoh, has emphasized the need for timely completion and high-quality delivery of ongoing flood mitigation efforts. This directive was issued when he visited the desilting operations at the Gapiona Flood Control Pond 7 site and the surrounding drainages along Ogunmwenyi Road in Benin City.

Hon. Momoh, who led the Agency’s technical team on an inspection tour following recent heavy rainfall in the state capital, stated that the project supports the infrastructural development goals outlined in Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo’s five-point agenda.

While assessing the progress of the desilting activities, the CEO underlined the critical importance of completing the work ahead of the peak rainy season. He cautioned that any delays could heighten the risk of severe flooding in low-lying communities, potentially leading to environmental damage and infrastructural losses.

He further stressed that strict adherence to project specifications and timelines is non-negotiable, and reiterated that the state government will not condone substandard execution or unwarranted delays.

Hon. Momoh reaffirmed EdoFEWMA’s commitment to rigorous monitoring of all desilting projects, ensuring accountability, compliance, and the overall effectiveness of the state’s flood management initiatives.
