The Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs) in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ)’s Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE) has launched cash for work scheme for 225 artisans in the state.
Addressing journalists after launching the programme, Managing Director, Edo State Skill Development Agency, Mrs. Ukinebo Dare, said the initiative was part of efforts to actualise Governor Godwin Obaseki’s mandate on skills development and jobs creation for the youths.
According to her, “We are inaugurating the EdoJobs Cash for Work Scheme in partnership with (GIZ), and the programme is meant for people in different trades. The state government is partnering with stakeholders to ensure that young people get trained on government projects.
“Edo Innovation hub and Edo production center are going to be renovated and some projects in other locations are going to be renovated;this is going to serve as a learning programme.”
She added: “We have 225 young people split into different trades, including welding, roofing, painting, tiling, plumbing, window installation and site attendant, among others.
“They are going to be working under certified master craftsmen and supervisors. They are going to be earning money every day that they are on the project site. It is a learning project; it’s a job placement; it is an apprenticeship.”
“They are going to be on this for three months and at the end of the day, they are going to be placed on larger projects as well. We thank Governor Godwin Obaseki and our partners for this project.”
On his part, the Project Manager for Edojobs for Cash Work Scheme-GIZ Skills Development for Youth Empowerment, Engr. Iyalekhue Osazuwa, said the programme is geared towards training youths on different subjects and skills for three months.
