Following a devastating rainstorm that brought down a large tree, which eventually destroyed residential buildings on Osarodion Street in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, the Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EdoSEMA), has responded by conducting an on-the-spot assessment to evaluate the extent of damage with a view to providing succor for the affected residents.

The EdoSEMA Team led by the Executive Secretary, Hon. Jerry Idahosa, during the assessment, expressed gratitude to God that no life was lost in the incident. He assured the victims that the Edo State Government is fully aware of their plight and sympathizes with them. He emphasized that assistance will soon be provided to cushion the impact of the disaster on their lives and properties.

Hon. Idahosa advised residents to be proactive about safety during storm seasons. He specifically cautioned that aged trees especially those over 100 years old and located close to residential buildings, pose serious risks and should be safely removed to prevent avoidable damage.

He reiterated the importance of using the EdoSEMA’s emergency toll-free line, ‘739’, or contacting the Agency directly via 08070419855 or 08140848899 concerning emergencies. He assured the public that the Agency remains fully prepared to respond swiftly to salvage disaster situations.

Victims of the rainstorm, including Mr. Oni Ajayi and Mrs. Phenomena Oyemina, narrated their ordeal and appealed to the Government and other relevant bodies for urgent support, describing the hardship brought upon them by the incident as too much for them to bear.
