The Edo State Government through the Board for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (BTVE), has commissioned the newly renovated Principal and Staff Quarters at the Government Technical College, Benin City, as part of its commitment to improving the welfare and living conditions of teachers in Technical and Vocational Institutions across the State.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of BTVE, Barr. (Mrs.) Onomen Briggs, reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to continuity in governance and the development of the Education Sector. She emphasized that teachers played a crucial role in nation building and that they should be happy here on earth, not waiting for their reward in heaven.
Barr. Briggs appreciated the State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, for their people-centered leadership, describing them as leaders who genuinely have the welfare of the people at heart and believe in the continuity of Government.
The Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Okpe, represented by the Director of Capacity Building, Directorate of Content Development Board, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, noted that the project aligned with the Board’s mandate to enhance the welfare of educators who are at the forefront of imparting knowledge. He disclosed that four out of thirteen flats had been successfully renovated, with plans underway to visit other project sites and ensure speedy completion of ongoing work.
The Principal of the College, Mr. Izedomwen Friday, appreciated the Edo State Government and the BTVE leadership for their continued investment in teachers’ welfare and infrastructure. He described the renovation as a timely intervention, noting that the quarters had been in a dilapidated state for years.
The commissioned Facilities comprised four twin-flat apartments and boys’ quarters, designed to provide a more conducive and comfortable environment for staff accommodation at the College.
