‎The Edo State Government through its Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has partnered Association of Nigerian Inventors (ANI) to empower women through innovation, skills development, and technology driven solutions.

‎While speaking during the meeting held at her office in Benin City, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief Bisi Idaomi Esq., who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Joy Ihensekhien noted that the partnership was aimed at providing opportunities for skill development and career advancement, ultimately empowering women to solve problems, develop new technologies and drive economic growth and innovation.

‎Chief Idaomi while commending ANI for its commitment to Innovation and technological advancement, particularly in areas that impact daily living, stated the unwavering dedication of the Government in promoting programs that uplift women and girls, fostering inclusive development.

‎”I am impressed with what your Association is doing and the range of innovations you have introduced. These innovations are making life easier and more comfortable for people”. She said.

‎Chief idaomi emphasized the importance of women actively participating in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), which she described as a key driver of modern development, as a way of keeping up with evolving global trends occasioned by scientific and technological progress

‎She further explained that traditional ways of doing things were giving way to new, more efficient and innovative approaches, adding that women must be empowered to take their rightful place in the ongoing transformation.

‎The State Coordinator of ANI, Dan Aigbe Asazobor, explained that the Association served as a platform for inventors of all ages, bringing together individuals passionate about science, technology, innovation, invention and research. He noted that ANI plays a crucial role in ensuring that innovative ideas are protected, supported and developed into viable commercial solutions both within the State and beyond.

‎Asazobor asserted that young inventors need support for using their intellect and creativity to solve real-world problems and contribute positively to society.

‎ He further disclosed that two young inventors from Edo State would be representing Edo State and the Nation at the International Innovation Events, adding that miss Ofure Asazobor will be participating in the upcoming 2025 International Fair for New Ideas-Inventions in Germany, with her project titled “Smart Clothesline Shielder with Solar Electricity Generation”.

‎ “In addition, David Josiah will represent Nigeria at the NextGen Innovation Challenge in the United Kingdom with his invention entitled, “UAV Flying Drone Aircraft for Agricultural/ Surveillance”. He explained.

‎The State Women Inventors Leader, Mrs. Priscillia Ekhosayator, who presented some of her innovative creations, commended the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for its efforts in empowering women and promoting innovation, adding that the Association was committed to leveraging technology in support of the Ministry’s initiatives and broader development goals.

‎Meanwhile, the Technical Secretary, Peace Ekeinde, noted that the collaboration was a strategic move to boost girls’ participation by creating inclusive opportunities, aiming to empower them to succeed in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and in turn contribute to a more equitable and innovative society.
