Edo State Government through its Traditional Medicine Board, has reaffirmed commitment to supporting Traditional Medicine Practitioners in the State as part of efforts aimed at harnessing indigenous knowledge to address health and social challenges, while ensuring that practitioners are recognized and accorded due respect.
Giving this assurance during the inauguration of the newly elected Executives of the Edo State Chapter of the National Association of the Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) at the premises of the Edo State Traditional Medicine Board in Benin City, the Chairman of the Edo State Traditional Medicine Board, High Chief (TDr.) Abudu Ugbesia JP appreciated the practitioners for their unity and commitment.
He urged them to continue working together to attain greater progress, noting that unity would attract recognition from the Federal Government.
TDr. Abudu further advised them to shun envy, describing it as a hindrance to collective progress.
In his remark, the National Deputy President of NANTMP, TDr. Mustapha Igene, lauded the Edo State Chapter of the Association for its peaceful conduct, disclosing that the Association was already in the process of obtaining its Federal and State licenses, which will strengthen its operations and legitimacy.
On his part, the newly elected Chairman of NANTMP (Edo State Chapter), Chief (TDr.) Odudu Evans assured that the Executives would collaborate with the Edo State Traditional Medicine Board to ensure that practitioners are not only recognized, but also accorded the respect they deserve from Government and the people.
Meanwhile, the newly inaugurated Treasurer of the Association, Sir (TDr.) Osasogie Odion, pledged that his Team would maintain transparency and accountability through proper financial records and reports. The inauguration was attended by practitioners and stakeholders across the State and marked a milestone in strengthening Traditional Medicine Practice in Edo State.
