Edo State Government through its Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, has reaffirmed its dedication to empowering women in the State with the relevant skills to succeed.
Giving this assurance during a meeting with the Arewa Christian Association (Edo State Chapter) at her office in Benin City, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief Bisi Idaomi Esq. explained skills acquisition potentials of generating income for individuals, which would in turn ensure peace of mind, boost confidence and foster a sense of fulfilment.
Chief Idaomi noted that the State Government had embarked on Women Empowerment Initiatives in order to improve the well-being of Edo women, emphasizing on the Edo State Skills Acquisition Centre in Evbomodu, which offers various training programmes aimed at equipping women and youth with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive and contribute to the economic growth of the State.
The Commissioner while expressing her commitment to working with the Association to improve lives and drive meaningful change, declared that the Ministry had carried out various empowerment programmes in the State, revealing that more programmes were under way.
In her remark, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Joy Ihensekhien, reaffirmed the Ministry’s mandate, assuring the Association that the Ministry would provide necessary information regarding initiatives designed to help them contribute to the prosperity of the State and harness their full potential.
On his part, the Chairman of the Association, Comrade Ernest John Agwale, appreciated the Commissioner, stating that collaboration between the Association and the Ministry would make a meaningful impact in addressing the longstanding challenges of unemployment and access to empowerment opportunities faced by its members.
He further stated that such collaboration would empower members of the Association with relevant skills to improve the State’s economic prospects.
