As part of efforts to ensure safety and security of lives and property, the Edo State Government under the leadership of Senator Monday Okpebholo has recruited and trained a total number of one thousand, nine hundred and seventy nine State Security Corps personnel to synergize with the Police and other security agencies in the fight against crimes and other social vices.
The Governor, Who was represented by the State Secretary to the Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq during the passing out parade of the Batch B trainees at the the Edo State Police Training School Headquarters at Ogida in Benin City, stated that security is one of the top mandates of his SHINE Agenda, disclosing that the State must be free from crimes and other social vices bedeviling it and must be a beehive of economic growth, development and investments.
“One thousand four hundred and seventy two were trained from the Nigerian Army at the NYSC Orientation Camp on the 5th of June, 2025 and today, we are gathered here to witness the passing out of a second batch of five hundred and seven recruits trained by the Nigerian Police, bringing the total number so far to, one thousand nine hundred and seventy nine recruits”. He said.
The Governor further complemented the Nigerian Army and Police for their tireless efforts at ensuring that the trainees are able to discharge their duties in the most professional manner when discharged to function as security personnel in the various Local Government Areas.
”With the numbers trained by the Army and Police, we can confidently say that the new security outfit is operationally ready for deployments to various Local Government Areas in the State. It’s my expectation that the new Corps will do well to consolidate on the existing arrangements put in place to address Security challenges in the State”. He added.
Governor Okpebholo admonished the recruits to be of good conduct in acting courageously with determination and professionalism in their assignments, promising the recruits that every trained State Security Corps member would be enrolled into the State Government payroll and the State Health Insurance Scheme coverage.
He appreciated the Inspector General of Police, the Chairman and members of the Committee on the restructuring and re- organization of the State Security Corps, which included, Major Gen. Ebhaleme (Rtd), Air Vice Marshall Charles Oghomen (Rtd), Brigadier Gen. Greg Omorogbe (Rtd) and Col. Kole Omomia (Rtd), while extending his appreciation to the Commandant of the Nigerian Police Training School, ACP Aigbe Aghahowa and other team of instructors.
