The Chairman of Egor Local Government Area (LGA), Hon. Kelvin Ighodaro Eguakun, has reiterated his administration’s commitments to improving a healthy environment through regular clearing of road medians, evacuation of drainages, and active participation in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the LGA.
Hon. Eguakun gave the assurance while inspecting the activities of Egor Road Makers on Upper Siluko Road, where they were cutting overgrown weeds along the road to eliminate obstruction and improve visibility for road users in the area. He admonished the Road Makers to be selfless in carrying out their duties, as they are expected to ensure that refuse is promptly removed from the road median.
While speaking to the Press, the Chairman stated that the Task Force on Environmental Sanitation would apprehend anyone caught dumping waste in unauthorized location within the LGA, saying Egor must be kept clean and environmentally safe.
While discussing proper waste disposal, the Council Chairman stated that indiscriminate waste disposal has serious consequences for public health and the environment. Emphasizing that indiscriminate waste disposal can cause land, water, and air pollution, as well as create breeding grounds for disease vectors, potentially leading to infectious disease outbreaks.
Hon. Eguakun urged Egor residents to clean up drains in front of their houses and to comply with the Edo State Government’s Monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise to promote a cleaner and healthier environment. He encouraged residents to take responsibility for their environment and help keep it clean.
