EIRS Partners Police for Tax Compliance

Edo State’s Tax Authority has called for synergy with the Nigerian Police, Edo Command, to boost tax compliance.

Barr. Oladele Balogun Bankole, the Executive Chairman of Edo Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), made the call during a courtesy visit to Edo Commissioner of Police in Benin city.

During the meeting, the Akoko-Edo born Chairman noted that the Agency had achieved its January revenue target of ten billion Naira, while emphasizing the importance of working with the Police in maintaining compliance with tax regulations.

According to him, “The role of law enforcement in tax collection cannot be over-emphasized. A well structured partnership with the police will strengthen our enforcement mechanisms and enhance revenue collection”.

Responding, Edo state Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin noted the significant contribution of the Revenue Service to the State’s development, while assuring of the Command’s commitment to supporting and partnering with the Agency of Government for effective and sustainable Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) collection.

“The Edo Police Command is committed to supporting lawful revenue collection.
Effective collaboration between security agencies and tax authorities will ensure a seamless enforcement process”. She said.

In a related development, the Revenue Chief met with the Department of State Services (DSS) to deepen collaboration towards enhancing tax compliance and a robust revenue drive in the State.
