Empowerment: Obaseki approves Agric Devt Programme for victims of human trafficking, others

The Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki has approved an agricultural development scheme that will address youth unemployment and assist victims of human trafficking ‎in the state.

According to the governor, ‎about 150 returnees who are the first batch of people to benefit from the initiative will also assist in reintegrating and improving the technical know-how of other returnees to become self-reliant.

He added that the scheme would also go a long way in making the returnees responsible; build and enhance their capacity in agro-allied business and create a template for youth empowerment.

Obaseki said: “We are focused on helping to provide exemplary standard for intending migrants and ensure there is food security as part of efforts to end severe hunger, poverty and unemployment in the state.”

Recall that the governor at a workshop on human trafficking in May this year, promised Edo people and the international community that his government would deal with the problem of human trafficking by providing the enabling environment for youths to harness their potential and end the menace of illegal migration and human trafficking in the state.

The project was recommended to the governor by the President, Initiative for Youth Awareness on Migration, Immigration, Development and Reintegration (IYAMIDR), Comrade Okoduwa Solomon.
