The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has hailed fathers for their sacrifices and unwavering commitment to providing for the needs of children and other members of the family and working assiduously to ensure a cohesive society.
The governor, who said this in commemoration of Fathers’ Day, maintained that men play critical roles in homes, workplace and the society and deserve praise for their indispensable role in ensuring the stability of the family unit and nation building.
According to Obaseki, “Today’s celebration presents yet another opportunity to appreciate fathers for their sacrifices, love and unflinching commitment to family and society. Even in instances that demand fathers to take on menial jobs, they have shown resilience, strength, determination to ensure that the needs of their families are well catered for.
“Edo State is blessed to have fathers who have sired children and raised them up to effectively represent the state nationally and in the diaspora. Today, we can boast of Edolites who are doing well globally in all spheres of life.”
Obaseki assured fathers that his administration will continue to pursue programmes and reforms that will provide decent means of livelihood to encourage them to play their roles even more effectively.
He added, “They have shown brightly, conquering several odds to be the super humans they are, in the face of uncertain economic terrains and work culture. But as a government, we will not relent in pursuing policies and reforms to attract more investors that will ensure that fathers get opportunities to be engaged in decent means of livelihood and cater for their families.”
The governor stressed that some of these opportunities would support the families providing jobs in industries, agriculture clusters, ports and the service sectors, among others.
Obaseki added that the state government will not relent in ensuring that fathers who are employees and retirees of the state get their due benefits promptly.
