Flooding: Edo Govt. Donates Relief Materials to Displaced Persons

The Edo State Government, through the Ministry of Health has paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to the flood victims in Etsako East, Etsako Central and Esan North East local government areas of the State.

The Commissioner for Health, Prof. Obehi Akoria, who was represented by the Director of Public Health, Dr. Stephenson Ojeifo, at the visit, reiterated that the State government is concerned about the wellbeing of the victims and committed to meeting their needs.

According to Prof. Akoria, the purpose of the visit was to assess the situation and the degree of the damage that was done, the living conditions of the people and to provide emergency medical supplies and free medical care to the affected persons living in the Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDP) camp.

She admonished the people to always be on the alert and respond to directives from authorities especially when it concerns disaster, as life is more important than properties.

The Commissioner urged the displaced persons to encourage others affected persons to come to the camp as the government is trying to provide succor with the available resources at its disposal.

She advised them to ensure their environments are clean and free from reptiles and vectors while harping on the need to report cases of sick persons to the government.

Responding, the flood victims expressed appreciation to the officials of the Ministry of Health for their timely visit.

They thanked Governor Godwin Obaseki for coming to their aid while also requesting that more provisions be made available to them.

Highlights of the visit were the presentation of medical supplies, health promotion materials as well as consumables by officials of the Ministry to the camp directors.
