The Vice Chancellor of Wellspring University, Prof. Isaac Rotimi Ajayi, has commended the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for entrenching policies which have enabled businesses to thrive in the State.
Prof. Ajayi gave the commendation during the 11th Convocation Ceremony of Wellspring University on Saturday, 21st October, 2023, in Benin City, where he also appreciated the cooperation and harmonious coexistence of the Institution among its host communities.
According to the Don, “The State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki is committed to the peaceful existence of business enterprises in the State. Earlier today, the wife of the Governor, Her Excellency, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki was here to commission the refurbished Nursing blocks, which tells of the administration’s commitments to encouraging key institutions in Edo State.”
The Convocation ceremony witnessed the presentations of a total of 214 graduates by the Senate. Of the sum were 116 graduates from two colleges for the award of first degrees and 98 postgraduate diplomas and master’s degrees.
In the Convocation Lecture titled “Career and Life Transitions in the Contemporary World”, delivered by Engr. (Dr.) Ayodele M. Abioye, the graduands were admonished to brace up for more of life challenges, which the Don described as disguised opportunities, emphasising that their abilities to find solutions to such problems would make them excel.
Quoting the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on the rates of Nigeria Gross Domestic Products (GDP) decline in sectors like trade, manufacturing, construction, road transport, amongst others, Prof. Abioye charged the graduates to contribute to the increase of the Nation’s GDP in such dwindling sectors and beyond.
The Convocation ceremony witnessed the conferment of Honourary Doctrate Degree in Business Administration on the Chairman of Channels Media Group and Chairman, Chief Executive of Channels Television, Dr. John Olatchy Momoh.
In numerous goodwill messages from stakeholders, the Academic Institution was described as progressing and breaking new grounds with its array of accredited programmes and numbers of graduands. The stakeholders include the Founder and President of Rosula Foundation, Princess Rosemary Osula Mku-Atu; the Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Okada, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye; the Vice Chancellor, Western Delta Univeristy, Oghara, Delta State, Prof. Augustine Ovuoronye Ikelegbe, amongst others.
Out of the 14 students who graduated with first class honours, Ebenezer Stephnie of the Department of International Relations, emerged the overall best graduating student with CGPA of 4.84. While attributing her success to hard work, resilience and God’s grace in her valedictory speech, she urged her fellow alumni to be good ambassadors of the Institution, adding that the greatness of world renown universities is built on the hard work of their alumni.
