By Abdul-Kadir Abdullah

The Executive Director of Edo State Flood, Erosion and Watershed Management Agency (EDOFEWMA), Honourable Ahmed Musa, has hosted prominent Muslim leaders and organizations from across Edo State in his house in Benin City, the state capital for a religious prayer session for the State Government.

The prayer session held on Saturday January 11, 2025 focused on fostering unity, strengthening Muslim representation in government, and for the continued success of the Edo State administration.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Musa expressed gratitude to Allah for His blessings and called on participants from all parts of the state to join in prayers individually and collectively for the progress of the current government.

He highlighted the need for unity among Muslims and reiterated the importance of maintaining and expanding Muslim representation in key political positions.

He said, “We must thank Allah for the achievements so far. For the first time in Edo, Muslims are occupying the positions of the SSG of the state and Chief of Staff. We must keep these positions, and we have to pray to keep them in the next four years,”

“Let us know that those who worked must benefit. Let us be patient and pray together while we expect more benefits.” Hon Musah added.

Reflecting on past collaborative efforts among Muslim groups during the last September 2024 Governorship elections, Hon. Musa urged the community to remain patient and united in their efforts.

Participants at the prayer session discussed recent political achievements and voiced their hopes for continued progress in the coming years. They committed to regular prayers for governmental success and pledged to support initiatives aimed at unifying the Muslim community.

The session was attended by influential figures, including Hon. Abass Braimah, an APC chieftain; Shiekh Sirajudeen Muhammad, the General Coordinator of the Edo Muslims for Equity and Good Governance (EMEGG); Alhaji Abdulaziz Igbinidu, the chairman of Edo State Council for Islamic Affairs (EDSCIA); the Council of Imaams and Ulamas from Edo South, Central, and North, FOMWAN, and Muslim Women in Politics among others.

Prayers were also offered for the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musah Ikhilor; the Chief of Staff, Hon. Ganiyu Audu, and other Muslim leaders in government.

The prayers ended on a note of resolve to promote equity, unity, and progress within the state.

Hon. Musa’s call for inclusivity and collaboration showed the Muslim’s commitment to ensuring the success of the Edo State government while strengthening Muslim participation in politics and governance.
