The Edo State Security Network acting on a tip-off on four suspects linked to the murder of a decomposed corpse in Benin City, recently arrested the suspected ritualists.
Investigation revealed that the decapitated burnt corpse was found at the former school of Nursing Hostel, by Edo Specialist Hospital Benin City.
Addressing journalists, the Edo State Security Network coordinator, Col. Kole Oshoiriamhe Omomia, revealed that his men were on routine patrol when they got an intelligence report of the heinous crime.
He said: “Our men were out on normal routine patrol and got a tip-off that there is a man staying in an abandoned building and no one knew his mission there, and that there is a corpse also lying there.”
Col. Omomia further said that his men quickly swung into action and stormed the said facility, where they discovered a corpse that was butchered and burnt with the body still very fresh.
He disclosed that upon investigation, four suspects were apprehended in connection with the crime and have since been handed over to the police to carry out further investigations and prosecution.
He noted that the prime suspect, Nwafor Azubike, was also found at the building where the corpse was discovered.
According to him, “Nwafor Azubuike who claimed he stays in the place, and that he knew the murdered man and had a chat with him a few days ago, was also apprehended to be further interrogated”
He added that the nature of the abandoned building could have created a buffer zone for the criminal elements to commit such heinous crimes while stressing that other items such as human hair were also discovered around the facility.
Recall that the Edo State Government as part of its efforts to re-engineer the security architecture of the State established and equipped the Edo State Security Network and has also commenced training and retraining its officers with the Nigeria Police Training College for better service delivery to the people in terms of security of lives and property.
These gestures by the State Government have in no small measure helped to enhance security in the State as the Edo State Security Network, in collaboration with other sister security agencies are working hard at making the State safe for residents and for socio-economic activities to thrive.
