Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that he wants to be remembered for re-enacting education in the State.

He made the remark on Thursday, November 10, 2022, during a book launch, titled: “As Long As The Law Remaineth” by Professor Amos O. Enabulele, and Associate Professor Anthony O. Ewere at the Akin Deko Auditorium, University of Benin, Benin City.

The book is a digest of the undying pronouncements of Justice Andrews Otutu Obaseki.

He said: “In publishing this book, you are reminding us of those values daddy (Justice Andrews Otutu Obaseki) stood for; values of humility, values of integrity, hard work and discipline.

“These were some of the things he lived for and told us throughout his life; that you do not live for ourselves; we live to serve our community and our God.”

“I have the privilege of being the Governor of Edo State by the grace of God, and my responsibility spans quite a lot of areas. “But one thing I want to be remembered for is that he was that Governor who came, not to build roads like 19th Street, but that the Governor who came to reenact education in Edo State”, Obaseki added.

On her part, the chief host of the occasion and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Lilian Salami, who was represented by the institution’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Ray Ozolua, commended the authors of the book and eulogized the sage, Justice Andrews Otutu Obaseki.

In her remarks, she said: “This event is gratifying because it is set to celebrate and honor a great man as Justice Andrews Otutu Obaseki, whose contributions to law are indelible.

“Justice Andrews Otutu Obaseki as we all know and as further seen from this book, is one of the brightest Nigerian citizens to ever sit on the Supreme Court Bench.

“Beyond his brilliance, his desire to always dispense justice without fear or favor; his accurate distillation of legal principles, are legendary. I am convinced that this book will advance learning and justice delivery for a better society.”
