Iduowina Community agog as Obaseki begins road construction, promises 24/7 power supply

"I will come back to come and check the work to make sure it is done properly; and by the time we finish, we will now go to electricity, so that we can bring 24/7 power to this community.

Residents of Iduowina Community in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State could not contain their joy as the Governor of the State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, commences road construction in the community.

The Governor, who went on an inspection of the road project on Friday, December 23, 2022, commended the community for its support in the last few years and stressed that the road project is well-deserved.

He said: “Iduowina is very close to my heart because two kilometers from here you have the Azura-Edo Independent Power Plant.

“This community is almost a host to major national investments. So it is a thing of shame to our government that you cannot have an accessible road to these very important investments.

“There is no reason why our communities cannot be accessible in Edo State.

“My hope is that even though we will not be able to finish tarring all the roads, those who will come after me will make it a priority to make sure that before the next 10-20 years, all the roads around our communities, particularly in major Benin Metropolitan areas are tarred.”

The secretary of the community expressed his profound gratitude to the Governor for the joy he has brought to the people of Iduowina by deeming it fit to construct the road.

In his remarks, he said: “Today is a historic day. This community has been in existence for a very long time, and you are not the only governor that has ruled this State.

“But today is a very big surprise to us. You deemed it fit that you are going to tar this road, and as the name goes: “Wake and see Governor”, we just woke up one day and we saw a caterpillar rolling along this road.”

Some residents who could not hide their joy, expressed appreciation to the governor for attending to their plights, which include the destruction of their properties by floods.

“We are very happy; in the sense that we are in “Morocco” (that is to say, they were cut off). Now we are happy the governor is here physically to inspect this road, and the erosion will vanish now.

“We are grateful. We have been supporting him before. We will now put in more support”, Comrade Austin Asibor, a resident of the community, commented.

In the same vein, another resident, Idowu Osaigbovo, a middle-aged woman said: “As our brother, the Governor, wants to do this road for us, we will be very happy; because of this road, some people in this area have deserted it.

“For those of us that are doing business, before we open our shops, floods would have entered them. Our goods will be destroyed. Now our governor, Obaseki, wants to do it for us.”

The governor also promised the community 24/7 power supply.

“I will come back to come and check the work to make sure it is done properly; and by the time we finish, we will now go to electricity, so that we can bring 24/7 power to this community”, Obaseki promised.
