The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has extolled the Edo State Governor for prioritizing the security of life and property in the State by investing in infrastructure that will enhance policing across the State.
The police boss gave the commendation on Saturday at the Police Training School, Ogida Barracks, Benin City, while commissioning a network of roads, blocks of classrooms; multipurpose barrack accommodation, school auditorium and dormitories built by the Edo State Government to strength the institution’s capacity to deliver on its mandate.
Other facilities handed over by Governor Obaseki included a renovated clinic located within the training school, an overhead tank and power generator, renovated place of worship, blocks of bathrooms and toilets as well as a block of six flats for police personnel at the Zone 5 Police Command in the State.
According to the Inspector General of Police, the network of roads constructed within the training school by the Edo State Government will improve access to the school while the blocks of classrooms will expand the carrying capacity of the school for more trainees.
“I have been here before and I can see the improvement in accessing the facilities within the training school,” he said.
He added that the Police institution appreciates that security is everyone’s business and stressed that facilities such as the assembly hall, classrooms and hostels will go a long way in taking care of the welfare needs of police personnel.
Explaining the rationale for the multimillion naira investment in the facilities, Governor Obaseki said: “For us in Edo, our focus is our people. Security is about people and we are focusing on the foundation that will sustain future efforts to ensure the security of life and property in the State.”
He noted that the Inspector General of Police since assuming office has been committed to rebuilding police infrastructure across the country, and took his guest on a tour of the Command and Control Centre built by his administration amongst other facilities.
