I was so happy, because with the new increment, you can plan, compared to the previous one - once you receive the salary, you will look so bored.

As workers in Edo State continue to count their gains with the payment of the N40,000 minimum wage, some civil servants have described Governor Godwin Obaseki as a strategic leader who has the interest of Edo people at heart.

Expressing his joy at the development, Emmanuel Omozuafo said: “Since I came into service in 2017, this is my first time seeing an increment of about 33 percent.

“I was too delighted yesterday when I got the alert. I want to thank the state governor; He has the interest of civil servants at heart. He has given us an enabling environment to work, and now the money following it is great news.”

Another civil servant who works with the Edo State Public Procurement Agency, Cynthia Suro Onuvienu, said:  “I really want to thank Governor Obaseki and I pray that God will answer his innermost heart’s desires”.

Emmanuel Omozuafo, who has been with the Edo State civil service for about five years now, was visibly elated about the increment when this writer visited his office.  He stated that his family could not also contain their joy on the new minimum wage. He expressed gratitude to the governor for his good work.

He said: “I got the alert yesterday evening, and it is a welcome development. I was so happy, because with the new increment, you can plan, compared to the previous one – once you receive the salary, you will look so bored.

“But with the new minimum wage, I was happy; my children were even jubilating with me. I’ve been with the civil service since 2017, and for the first time, I was happy when I received an alert because what I got was not what I was expecting.

“So I want to thank the Edo State governor for the good work he’s doing and for this new increment.”
