Motorists heave sigh of relief as Obaseki intervenes in failed portions of Benin-Sapele

We were basically given instruction by the Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, that we come and provide succour to the public by doing some palliative work here in order to give the people a bit of comfort”

As part of the Edo State Government’s effort towards ameliorating the suffering faced by motorists along the Benin-Sapele Road, particularly at the Peanut Junction and RCC by Evhukhu end of the ever busy Benin- Sapele Road during festive periods, the State Ministry of Roads and Bridges has embarked on palliative work on some failed portions of the road to ease traffic and avert accidents  on the road.

Speaking to newsmen on Thursday, December 22, 2022, during an inspection of the rehabilitation work, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Bridges, Engr. Osikhena Omo Ojior, noted that the intervention became imperative following complaints from motorists about the hardship they face on a daily basis owing to the deplorable state of the road, particularly the Peanut and RCC, by Evhukhu Junction which has adversely affected the free flow of vehicular movement, caused accidents and became a death-trap.

According to Engr. Osikhena “Here we are at RCC on the Benin-Warri-Sapele Road, essentially, this is a road under the custody of the Federal Government, Federal Ministry of Works, as it so happens, the contract as we know it has been awarded, unfortunately, I think the holiday season has made the contractor to leave site as at now.

“We were basically given instruction by the Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, that we come and provide succour to the public by doing some palliative work here in order to give the people a bit of comfort”.

The Permanent Secretary assured  the motorists that the State Government will do all it can to alleviate their sufferings on the road and make the yuletide stress/free as they ply the road.

He said: “We are sorry for the inconvenience, we hope that during the remaining part of the dry season that this area would be effectively repaired to bring the road back to its motorable state.”

Some motorists commended the prompt intervention by the State Government and said that the palliative work has improved the free flow of vehicles and has reduced the number of hours lost to the traffic gridlock they used to experience in festive seasons.

They expressed hope that the Federal Government would on its part fastrack the rehabilitation work on the entire section of the road.
